About the Doctor

Dr. D’Alessandro is a graduate of Cornell University and Boston University with B.A. and M.D. degrees respectively. He received specialty training in general and peripheral vascular surgery at St. Vincent ’s Hospital and Medical Center and New York University, where he was a research fellow of the American Cancer Society and on the NYU faculty in the position of Clinical Instructor in surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.). As a surgical resident and cancer research fellow he was privileged to work with the team that pioneered the first successful attempts to stop and prevent bleeding by reducing the pressure in esophageal and gastric varicose veins. His contributions to the medical literature have been on the subject of portal hypertension, the cause of the most instances of GI bleeding due to liver disease and a lethal complication because of a high mortality.

Dr. D’Alessandro served as a major in the US Army Medical Corp at the prior to civilian practice. He has been a practicing surgeon in the Fort Lauderdale area since moving to Deerfield Beach in 1973 and then Lighthouse Point, the home also of the parent clinic. He is on the attending or honorary staffs of North Broward, Holy Cross, North Ridge and Imperial Point hospitals in Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. Medical society affiliations have included the Broward County and Florida Medical Associations, the American Medical Association, the Florida Association of General Surgeons, the Southern Surgical Society, the Society of Abdominal Surgeons, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery and the American Phlebology Society.

Dr. D'Alessandro established The Vein Clinic of South Florida in 1988 and since that time has further specialized and confined his practice to varicose vein disease offering minimally invasive techniques for those patients with more advanced varicose vein conditions. The clinic has gained recognition for cosmetic relief of spider blemishes and varicose veins and low risk and cost effective therapy without major surgery for more advanced stages. Endocatheter laser ablation and VNUS® Closure, introduced in this new century, are considered by Dr. D'Alessandro to be the most significant advances in the field since the Mayo Clinic popularized ligation and stripping close to a hundred years ago.
