About the Clinic

leg

The Vein Clinic of South Florida founded by David A. D’Alessandro, M.D., F.A.C.S. specializes exclusively in the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins. Dr. D’Alessandro is a vascular surgeon and his practice should not be confused with sclerotherapy-cosmetology and anti-aging clinics providing skin rejuvenation, hair removal and a host of other services not of a vascular nature. For these conditions, as a rule, one needs a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Likewise, for treatment of varicose veins and spider blemishes, choice of practitioner should not be taken lightly. Sclerotherapy is best administered by or under the direct supervision of medical doctors and varicose veins are usually best placed in the hands of qualified surgical specialists.

Since 1988, The Vein Clinic of South Florida has been providing safe and affordable outpatient treatment of varicose veins using minimally invasive techniques whenever sclerotherapy alone is not sufficient treatment. Rather than ligation and stripping, patients are treated without incisions and without pain and results are far superior to those achieved with older surgical procedures. Bringing to bear ALL treatment modalities, including microphlebectomy (microvaricectomy)*, laser and sclerotherapy, ** patients are advised to expect 100% and lasting clearing of varicose veins.

Literature and photo albums with many before and after treatment documentary pictures are available for visitors to see without an appointment in our offices. Consultations, which consist of a complete medical history and appropriate physical examination, and Doppler studies for patients with varicose veins, and sclerotherapy treatments are by prior arrangement only. For most patients with varicose veins and nearly all spider vein patients we can begin treatment right away, in which case there is no consultation fee.

* Microphlebectomy and microvaricectomy refer to the minimally invasive technique of surgically removing varicose veins through tiny stabs, little larger than a needle hole so that they heal without leaving a scar, and through which the surgeon can remove varicose veins painlessly under local anesthesia.

** The term "echosclerotherapy" means the placement of sclerotherapy injections into a vein using ultrasound to help the doctor inject a vein not evident on the surface of the skin. It is a term that has been coined by practitioners using sclerotherapy as an alternative to surgery for permanently correcting the underlying cause of varicose veins. It is not a procedure highly regarded by most specialists, as it is rarely a long term solution.

*** Endocatheter ablation (ELVA, EVLT, LCA, VNUS® Closure, RFA ) refer to the new highly regarded technique of treating varicose veins without incisions by using only needles, catheters and laser or radio-frequency to collapse and permanently close varicose veins with energy delivered to the inside of the vein.
