The Vein Clinic of South Florida, with offices in Lighthouse Point, Boca Raton and Ft. Lauderdale, was founded in 1988 by David A. D'Alessandro, M.D, F.A.C.S., a vascular surgeon who specializes exclusively in the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins.
The Vein Clinic of South Florida, near Ft. Lauderdale, should not be confused with Sclerotherapy-cosmetology clinics offering treatments of a host of cosmetic problems such as hair removal, collagen injections and anti-aging therapies in addition to vein disorders.
Whether treatment is for varicose veins and you are looking for an alternative to ligation and stripping surgery, or whether it is strictly cosmetic, choice of practitioner is not to be taken lightly. Sclerotherapy for even spider veins is best administered by or under the direct supervision of medical doctors and varicose veins are usually best placed in the hands of qualified surgical specialists.
While the vast majority of our patients are treated with injection sclerotherapy, there are patients for whom sclerotherapy, and especially foam sclerotherapy, alone is not appropriate or sufficient because sclerosing injections can rarely deal with the underlying cause of varicose veins. On the other hand minimally invasive recently developed procedures can now correct varicose veins with a degree of finality never before possible.
The recent advances of endovenous laser catheter ablation and VNUS® Closure (radio-frequency energy as opposed to laser and known also as RFA), microphlebectomy (also known as ambulatory phlebectomy) combine to revolutionize the treatment of varicose veins and reduce risk even further and neither general anesthesia nor sedation are necessary. Patients with the most advanced stages of varicose veins can now be treated without incisions and scarring, with minimal risk and without pain or sedation, and may drive themselves home and return immediately to work and usual activities rather than convalescing at home for a week or two. Cosmetic results are superior to ligation and stripping surgery not only in the absence of scars but more complete clearing of varicose veins can be routinely achieved. Because minimally invasive surgical protocol eliminates the underlying cause of varicose veins, in a manner that sclerotherapy alone cannot, patients are given the greatest assurance possible of lasting improvement.
